Corporate Receptions
The Coca Cola Company This event had very specific branding requirements, which were shaped by the host, the Coca-Cola Company. Current Affairs transformed a standard ballroom into a fabulous red-and-white reception. The ballroom walls were dressed in red and white, couches were covered in white vinyl, tables were draped in red with white chairs, and for added branding, the Coca-Cola logo was projected behind the stage and onto the ballroom floor. Luxury Re-DefinedRecently, a Client approached us to plan and
produce two significant events in celebration of not only their 5th
anniversary in Hawaii but also the renaming and re-branding of their
retail complex, which is the largest collection of luxury brands in a
single shopping destination in Waikiki. The event heralding in the new ‘Luxury Row’
needed to be just that – luxurious – while at the same time exciting
enough that it would stop people in their tracks, including the
thousands of people in Waikiki for the Honolulu Marathon. Click here to view images of the Cigar and Whiskey event and Click here to view images of the public re-branding launch of Luxury Row. Pictures by Chaz ACES Photography
Anniversary Events
ERINA - 35th Anniversary
Current Affairs was hired to produce an exclusive royal affair for 650 on the grounds of the only official palace in the United States, Hawaiis `Iolani Palace, which was built in 1882. Picture a clear-roofed tent at dusk, silhouetted by palm trees, with the dramatically lit Palace as its backdrop. Beneath the tent are elegantly dressed tables featuring rich red-and-gold linens; tropical centerpieces with candles; elegant printed programs; and gold-draped chairs. Warm ambient lighting casts an elegant glow while dramatic directional lighting creates a romantic view of the Palace and its grounds. A covered stage set up along one long end of the tent provides the perfect platform for Hawaiian entertainment and traditional hula. Lastly, the Royal Guard of `Iolani Palace is stationed at the grand, gated entrance to the Palace grounds to ensure the exclusivity of the event. More Images
French Marketplace When Bank of Hawaii set out to host some of its top Clients, they wanted to bring the charm of the French countryside to the Honolulu Academy of Arts, which was hosting a Japan-Paris exhibit. Current Affairs presented a menu to complement the ambiance. Wooden farmer carts served as the marketplaces food stations and featured all of Frances finest comfort foods from crepes, fresh baked breads, French cheese, pate and quiche. Faux French signs enhanced the dcor and staff were dressed in berets and aprons, in so called peasant French chic. Read on or click to view More Images. Pictures by Chaz ACES Photography
Bank of Hawaii - "In Celebration of the Arts" Set among the various galleries and courtyards at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, "In Celebration of the Arts" created a magical experience for its attendees. Current Affairs was charged with selecting and orchestrating the musicians and other artistic talent, who enhanced and interpreted each area as Guests journeyed through different atmospheres into the dinner venue. Current Affairs hit every sensation, from emotional operatic tones, the "Silence of Our Mime," and the frivolity of a court jester to an Indian Sarod and Tabala trio, a 10-foot-tall "living tree," and Shaolin warriors. event has generally been held at their home, and they have moved three
times, so naturally, a new venue begs for a different interpretation.
We've done everything from presenting unique welcome drinks and
featuring different chefs at activity stations to upgrading the
ubiquitous sushi bar to now featuring Sansei
restaurant. We also change out fabric colors and play with lighting
techniques to create a new ambiance each year. And, now that the
husband has his own band, it has become our featured entertainment, so
the stage area has become more dramatic as the event’s popularity has
grown. Of course, there have been times when a larger venue has been
needed ~ such was the case this past year when we secured Waialae
Country Club for the company's milestone anniversary. More Images.... Pictures by Chaz ACES Photography All Fired UpThat's what we were - all fired up - to plan and produce a gala event for the third year in a row for the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company
(FFIC), a premier property and casualty insurance company that has a
mission to support firefighters. Each year, FFIC hosts a reception
& dinner for Clients attending an annual conference on the Big Island of Hawaii. We conceptualized a fireman's themed event,
called the Mauna Lani Firehouse. Event decor included firefighter gear
and a real, old-fashioned fire-truck; we also built a brick wall to
make the venue resemble a firehouse. Guests were served a family-style
dinner and, with the right lighting, the area conveyed a warm,
family-friendly environment - reflecting our Client's mission and brand. Click here to see more pictures from the Firehouse! Pictures by Chaz ACES Photography
Awards Programs
Conde Nast Readers' Choice Awards 2002 This awards program for Conde Nast Traveler was a landmark event in that it was the first corporate event ever to be held at `Iolani Palace. The elegant affair featured an open-air cocktail reception fronting the Palace and a sit-down dinner under a tent on the grounds. Additional event elements included entertainment, staging for the Readers' Choice Awards presentation, tours of the Palace and presence of the King's Guards. 7th Annual Bernice Pauahi Bishop Awards
Current Affairs was hired by Bishop Museum to plan and produce its 7th
Annual Bernice Pauahi Bishop Awards Dinner for 1,000 of Oahu's most
notable community leaders and supporters. One of the biggest challenges
was the venue itself as Bishop Museum decided to host the dinner on the
Museums Great Lawn for the first time in its history instead of at a
hotel ballroom. Read on or click to view More Images Pictures by Chaz ACES Photography Meetings and Conventions
McDonalds of China Team Extreme With less than six weeks to coordinate and execute a memorable event, Current Affairs not only met the Client's expectations, they surpassed their wildest imaginings! The program was to be a series of events for a group of 1,100 company managers and Guests, and each event was to be different and exciting. For the opening event, our 100-foot stage was erected to showcase extreme skateboarders, bike riders, and of course, the Golden Arches that took center stage. Every detail was carefully considered and executed down to the flags from each of the representatives' countries that were specially created for the event to the giant 'wave' on the stage, and the spandex-covered Guest chairs banded with McDonald's signature yellow. Hawaii Uncorked Hawaii Public Radio brought Current Affairs in to help it with its
annual fundraiser, Hawaii Uncorked. The team creatively interpreted the
wine tasting, arranging the individual tasting stations and silent
auction items where they would not only have the most visual impact but
would also allow for comfortable pacing and easy traffic flow. More Images
French Festival For this event, Ala Moana Center contracted Current Affairs to assist
it with planning and producing an event that would be complementary to
the Waikiki-based French Festival. The team created a French-themed
cocktail reception complete with gourmet fare, incredible flowers and a
full production skit based on the Three Musketeers. Contemporary
models and other interpretations were blended into the skit, showcasing
modern-day fashions in an innovative way. More Images March of the Production
Rewind six weeks. That was about the time that Current Affairs was pulled in to assist on the March of Dimes Foundation Hawaii Chapter Governors’ Ball honoring Starwood Hotels & Resorts
as the recipient of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Award for
Distinguished Service. Each organization—the March of Dimes and
Starwood—had its own objectives and Current Affairs’ role was to tie
them all together. Click here to see more pictures from the Governors' Ball.
